Giandomenico Negro, winemaker of Tenuta di Fessina during his first season at Rovittello provides us with some very important updates regarding climatic conditions and the growth of the vines

Winter has been cold with many rain showers (rain and snow) up to the month of March. The top of the Etna volcano remained covered with snow until late spring with late snowfall.

Spring saw a lot of rain on Etna and temperatures which were under the seasonal average. These conditions determined a late sprouting and enhanced the growth of many weeds, thus it took many labor hours to keep them under control.

The abundant water reserve was of much help during the hot months of May and June, allowing an optimal vegetative growth, a wonderful blossoming followed by  perfect setting.

The hailstorm which fell upon the volcano June 9th touched our vineyards too causing fortunately minor damage to the vines.

In the beginning of July the vintage shows great perspective with healthy grapes and without pest attacks.
